Several weeks ago, my computer has been death, he he. I say it was death because i couldn’t enter Gnome Display Manager (GDM) in my machine as i would like to enter. I don’t know why did this kind of annoying thing happen brutally to me. I have any kind of way to resolve my problem which is dropped me to a lonely and disappointed feeling after a proud thing Of Ubuntu. Really hard for me to think that my Ubuntu machine have to be resolved through a clean install!!!!! How can it be, I think it woudn’t be a matter if my Internet Connection is good enough. my Internet Connection isn’t sufficient to provide me the Ubuntu Update which now has been Hardy 8.0.4.1 as fast as you all could. How much time, also setting that i must do?

By The way, by the end of my searching, I found a great Post Which guide me in resolving my problem. Unfortunately i’m forget where the URL is located, but i remember the steps which guide me through. I know My Problem was because My ATI Driver so actually i want to find my way ‘home’ by resetting it using terminal. But that was a Big Lie (means Nothing’s happen!!) I cant do it!

and finally I tried this steps and works successfully!!!!

1. If you are facing your White Screen of Death, Try this Alt+Ctrl+F1, It would lead you to the tty Mode. Log in and restart by typing sudo shutdown -r now You will be restarted
2. (if you haven’t been starting your machine you may go from this point) In the login screen, click the option button which is located on 7 O’Clock direction (lower left)
3. Choose Session
4. Choose the Failsafe GNOME option and click OK
5. Now your screen is really beautiful, Isn’t it? hehe
6. Your work isnt finished yet, Go to the Application >> Add and Remove Programs
7. YOu will be escorted to the Program Package that is installed or ready to be installed in your machine (because I’m Using ATI CARD and i know the problems coming right from it) Type ATI in search bar, scroll down and uncheck the ATI binary X.Org driver (if u are using another Card, Sorry I dont recommend you to use this) Click Apply
8. Insert your Password, and Ok again
9. Once the Process finished, you may Restart your machine, and in logon screen, See the Step No. 3 Above and choose GNOME session as your default
10. You will be log in successfully to your Hardy!!

if you still have the problems, may be you should do this in the terminal (this problem maybe because of your compiz)

Beberapa waktu yang lalu Windows di laptop istriku terserang virus xorer yang sangat menyebalkan, menyebalkan karena (ya juga namanya virus) sangat membebani resources memori (udah processor celeron, memori mentok di 256 MB, kena virus pula!! Lengkap genap dah ). Setiap kali menggunakan laptop aku selalu menghindari menggunakan windows, alasannya pertama bukan karena virus (walau ada sebagian alasan) namun lebih karena aku mau migrasi ke Linux seutuhnya (meski belum terlalu bisa dilakukan dalam waktu dekat karena banyak juga program yang harus aku pakai di Win, seperti Photoshop dan CorelDraw). Yang kedua memang linux (untuk sekarang) masih free from virus!!, yang ketiga Virus yang bercokol di OS Win laptop pasti akan merongrong Flasdiskku dengan jejalan program mematikannya (Ya virus itu tadi!! heh he he h)

Singkat cerita si aku udah mulai capek juga ama tuh virus, karena gak mungkin kan kita nangkis terus atau menghindar terus kalo bukan kita yang keperosok ya komputernya yang bahkan jadi modar (jawa) yah dengan berat hati aku kemudian menganjurkan istriku untuk membawa (atau lebih tepatnya memanggil) tukang servis kantornya (kebetulan udah jadi maintener di kantor istriku) untuk membasmi tuh virus. sebetulnya sih kalo urusan yang beginian aja harusnya gak usah nyampe ke mereka segala sih karena kebetulan urusan komputer saya sih mungkin diatas rata rata (tanpa bermaksud melebih - lebihkan nih!!) so kalo cuman virus sebenarnya gampang aja. Lho tapi kenapa gak ngancurin sendiri? sederhana aja jawabannya, kita gak punya alat seperti yang orang punya. kebetulan mereka punya konektor hardisk laptop ke usb yang belum saya punyai sehingga gampang banget scanning hardisk dengan antivirus mereka langsung dari komputer mereka. Sebenarnya bagi kita yang sedikit paham di dunia perkomputeran, nitipin komputer/laptop di tempat orang lain sama aja dengan memberikan kunci rumah ke orang lain (mungkin tukang yang tetap saja orang lain) dengan segala perabot dan harta masih utuh disana. Mungkin hasil kerja mereka gak sepenuhnya seperti yang kita mau, ada program yang hilang, settingan yang berubah, sampai harus reinstall (ini dia nih!!) - Singkatnya sangat vurnerable gitu

Akhirnya, ketakutanku terbukti, setelah beberapa hari aku tinggal ke luar daerah untuk satu keperluan dan akhirnya kembali lagi ke Kubar dan nyalain tuh Laptop, barulah semuanya kami sadari kalau ada yang berubah total. Ternyata virusnya terlalu berat untuk si antivirus, sampe sampe laptopnya harus di reinstall. HHhhh……… aku menghela nafas panjang mengingat semua program yang ilang, seperti Photoshop CS (sengaja mawas laptop yang belum mampu naik ke level teratas di level CS3) Macromedia Dreamweaver 8 Kesayanganku dan yang paling mengejutkan si grub milik Ubuntu yang sengaja kusandingkan dengan Windows gak muncul pada saat boot awal. Ini juga berarti kalo Ubuntuku gak akan pernah bisa di munculin lagi (sebelum grubnya di restore) dalam benakku wah wah, gimana ini donk!!? Oke tenang Joel dalam pikirku, selama pulsa masih ada dan GPRS lancar semua ini gak akan menjadi hal yang sulit bagi ku, googling sebentar udah ketemu gimana cara ngaktifin lagi linux yang “hilang” tadi

today i feel not so good, because of a stomachache that brings me very weak. But I just want to review my ubuntu since i falling in love with it!
Ubuntu was surprisingly attract my attention at the first sight!! wow i thought It going to be my lovely distro i think!! (that time) and it is!! i made ubuntu as my main OS! i love it
and the thing that i love from it are
1. It is Free and opensource software
2. Good appearance
3. Much much more free on using it
4. Faster in internet connection
5. Virus free (maybe for now — i dont know will it appear to linux machine one day!)

but as the running time, igradually found that this free and opensource is also sometimes annoying ar at least made me troubled. the thing are:
1. When i download a content, i cant browsing (anyone knows why?)
2. After installing compiz, sometimes my videos and audio files cannot be played (whether not all the time, it really disturbing me!)
3. sometimes i must remember the code when i want to install some packages or program in my machine

but overall, i love you Ubuntu

You just installed your 3D Linux desktop and you are really enthusiastic about it. But when you try to play some videos, you get a strange black output. What’s going on?
The common software video players that come with the Linux desktop are able to display the video stream to several types of output devices. This includes several types of output for the graphical interface, and also obscure output devices such as text mode, using ASCII characters.
The default output device is XVideo (or Xv) for players such as those based on GStreamer (totem) and VLC.
As you guessed, there is a bug with XVideo when using Beryl/Compiz. Therefore, to fix, you need to switch to another output device that works.
For GStreamer players (such as totem, the default movie player in GNOME, Ubuntu and so on), you need to run from the command line the command
gstreamer-properties
(with older distributions such as Ubuntu 6.06 there is an option in System/Preferences for this).
and pick
Video, then for Default Video Plugin choose X Window System (No Xv). Click on test to verify that it actually works. Click Close and you are set.
VLC is not installed by default in Ubuntu 6.10. You need to install manually using the Synaptic Package Manager (under System/Administration), once you have activated the Universe repository in Repositories.
Start VLC and click on Settings, then Preferences. Expand Video and then expand Output modules. You will notice several options for output device. How do we actually choose which one should be the active output device? Well, it appears it’s a bit tricky. Select the item Output modules, and notice the checkbox at the bottom right that says Advanced options. Check the box, and now you have the option to select a different output device. Pick X11 video output, click on Save and you are set!

This is several days since i decide to migrate my OS choice to Linux (Debian Core/Ubuntu) OS. Firstly I must reinstall my Linux OS because a wrong setting in my /opt folder also i was unable to get it right as the OS itself want! why did i Know It? i know it since it was unable to boot normally or it was unable to log me in correctly. Ya, I think that’s no problem because i myself is still in learning process. Also i would like to thank for Ubuntu team who has so kindly deliver the CDs freely to me and all of people request it anyone interested in it, just freely come here but all u have to do is just give some time to register or if you have a broadband Internet connection you may try it here

Everything is totally different and so light. That was the first impression when i come with my plain mind. Everything i have ever worried of ‘migrating’ my OS choice isn’t happen as I’ve pretended before. The thing remain in my mind is why i don’t try to migrate to Linux soon as i received the CD few months ago.
With this new one, I’m able to surf faster, download files easily and more interested in it. believe it or not, this using this distro, I’m able to download files 3x faster than usual. I’m not kidding when i say that using Ubuntu is faster. I’m really feeling it. with it i could hear for the music directly from AOL music without any trouble. i haven’t feel the same with my formerly OS. may be if i in the broadband connection, this will no effect at all because it maybe no difference between high speed in Win or in Lin.

i recommend this opensource software for all people in the world.

Ya intinya, Ubuntu telah sangat berbaik hati 2 kali pesan duakali pula dipenuhin. malah liat kan yang terakhir, pesannya 2 dikirimnya 3 biji. What a really kind of Ubuntu. Mungkin sesuai dengan mottonya “LINUX FOR HUMAN BEINGS”.
Dengan penuh antusiasme tinggi aku buka tuh Kemasan yang cantik putih. ehm Isinya membuatku kaged sekaligus senang karena isinya bukan cuman Kubuntu aja yang datang seperti yang aku pesan sebelumya (gak merhatiin amplop dinK!!) disana ada paket Ubuntu (yang dulu udah aku pesan) namun versinya beda Ubuntu 8.04 LTS (Hardy Heron) wow!! i think I’m surprised that time juga Edubuntu. kelebihan yang satu ini yaitu kita bisa menginstal si linus ekh linux ke kompi kita langsung tanpa harus takut terjadi sesuatu yang gak menyenangkan bakal terjadi terhadap windoze yang kita miliki. sesuatu yang sangat jauh berbeda dengan si gutsy gibbon alias ubuntu 7.10 yang lalu. CD yang lau coman sempat aku mainin beberapa kali via live CDnya namun gak berani sama sekali untuk mengutak-atik sistem windoze yang udah aku pake mulai dulu. Mubazir banget kan Kirimannya!! namun yang kali ini wah kayanya Hmm nice to try deh i think. Dan jadilah aku mencoba menginstal si Kubuntu via Windoze. namun itu semuanya belum sepenuhnya membuatku yakin untuk mencoba lebih jauh!

bro udin di tutorial K.L.A.S (Kelompok Linux Arek Suroboyo) It Helps me much, walaupun karena bodohnya diriku semua data di Drive Dku hancur gara2 salah pengertian serta salah mempartisi diskku via partition Magic hixzz. semuanya sih gak perlu disesali.
